Did you know…
As previously explained, Man is the key to the development of a terroir. But what is a "terroir"? The viticultural term "terroir" is uniquely French and impossible to translate into a single English word. It is the result of a complex alchemy arriving from the interplay of soil, climate, grape variety and the winemaker's art. It's important to note that light-colored soils such as kimmeridgian marl (limestone-clay) provide the best support for white grape varieties and to know that Sauvignon Blanc is perfectly suited to this type of terrain.

The personality of our wines (aroma, bouquet) is directly tied to our terroir while the quality is brought to the forefront according to the climatic conditions of a particular vintage year, the grape variety, and our own "savoir-faire".
The Village of Montigny
Thirty kilometers from the cathedral city of Bourges, 15 kilometers southwest of Sancerre by the D 955 road and the D 44 (Michelin map number 78 - C4), you come to a little village settled on a gently sloping hillside. Montigny, a typical village of the Berry region with its stone and stucco houses trimmed in brick and topped with slate roofs, nestled at the foot of the village's XIth century Romanesque church.
Montigny is one of 13 communities in the Sancerre area that were designated Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) Sancerre in the first decree of 1936 for white wine produced from Sauvignon Blanc and in 1959 for red and rosé wines produced from Pinot Noir.
